Former President Endorses Hutchison In Texas Governor’s Race

HOUSTON (January 22, 2010)--Former President George H. W. Bush endorsed U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison for Texas governor Friday.

Bush said Friday in Houston that he supports Hutchison over Gov. Rick Perry in the March 2 GOP primary because she's an effective leader with the right vision and values to lead the state.

Perry became governor in 2000 when Bush's son, Gov. George W. Bush, was elected president in 2000 and resigned.

Bush, who campaigned for Perry when he ran for lieutenant governor, said he has nothing against the governor but he feels closer to Hutchison and believes she can do the job.
